This year SIPUG Day will explore this theme through the prism of Financial institutions, governing bodies, scholars and data providers, and start-up tech companies.  The challenge is great: How is the industry facing it? What are the setbacks and opportunities?

Institutional investors and the power of active ownership

Matthias Narr is Head Engagement International at Ethos in Geneva, Switzerland. He is responsible for the management of the EEP International dialogue programme and Ethos’ international engagement activities. Matthias Narr joined Ethos as a Senior Engagement Specialist in March 2017. He is member of the PRI’s Stewardship Advisory Committee.
Matthias Narr studied Political Science, Economic History and International Law at the University of Zurich and the University of Paris X and holds a master’s degree.
Before joining Ethos, Matthias Narr worked as an Engagement Specialist in Robeco’s Active Ownership department in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Previously, Matthias Narr had been a manager in SAM’s Sustainability Services team in Zurich, Switzerland.

SVVK-ASIR: ESG data user (and producer)

Tamara Hardegger is the Managing Director of the Swiss Association for Responsible Investments (SVVK-ASIR), a coalition of the largest Swiss public institutional investors.
She is responsible for the Association’s development and activities, which centre around investor engagement on ESG issues on behalf of its eleven members.
Tamara has over 12 years of experience in Sustainable Finance working with the entire financial sector value chain.
As a product manager with Thomson Reuters in London (now LSE Group) she led the integration of ESG ratings into the firm’s financial information platforms gaining a deep understanding of their nature and inherent challenges.
Later she moved to Frankfurt and helped investor clients in Switzerland and Germany craft their Sustainable Investment strategy at Sustainalytics, a globally leading ESG research provider.
Tamara holds a Master of Arts from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. She now lives and works in Zurich.

Sustainability as Investment Conviction

Dr Foort Hamelink joined Lombard Odier in 1999 where he co-set up the Quant franchise, managing equity and fixed income portfolios in a fully systematic way. Closely working with the then SRI team, one of the first Quant-SRI funds was launched in 2004. Ten years later he joined the Fiduciary Management team in the Netherlands, focusing on the assets and liabilities of pension funds and insurance companies, advising these asset owners on the integration of sustainability.

In 2018 Foort joined Lombard Odier Investment Management’s SIRSS team, contributing to the development of the various sustainability-related models and helping with the implementation of these models as bespoke solutions for clients.

He is also a part-time Associate Professor at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, where he teaches Finance and Real Estate with a specific focus on sustainable finance.

Foort earned a PhD in finance from the University of Geneva in 1997, holds a master’s degree in economics and finance and a bachelor’s degree in econometrics

Martina Mcpherson is Head of ESG Product Management within the Financial Information Business Unit at SIX. She has over 20 years of sustainable finance experience, in industry and academia, and is an award-winning ESG influencer, researcher, incubator and entrepreneur. Prior to her role at SIX, she was Head of ESG Strategy at ODDO BHF Asset Management, Senior Vice President, ESG and Engagement Strategy at Moody’s, Global Head of ESG Index Products and Research at S&P DJI, Managing Director of Sustainable Investments Partners Ltd. and Vice President of ESG Solutions at MSCI. Earlier in her career, she worked in (ESG) product, research and engagement roles at Insight Investment, F&C AM and at Deutsche Bank AG. Martina has an MBA certificate in finance and business from London School of Business and Finance, and a M.A. in Law and Human Sciences from University of Frankfurt. Martina is an academic lecturer, writer and public speaker in sustainable investing and has co-authored a range of ESG and Fintech books. For her work in sustainable finance and leadership, she was awarded the title “Top 50 Woman in Finance” by the World Finance Forum (WFF) in 2022. Ian Stannard joined the ICE Sustainable Finance team following the acquisition of the climate transition risk specialist, Urgentem, where he was the Head of Marketing & Engagement. Ian has extensive experience developing and producing thought leadership, macro research and data products for global financial market participants. Ian has a passion for generating actionable ideas and working closely with asset owners/managers, central banks and multinational corporates around the world.
Ian developed his analytical and data skills at top tier investment banks and institutions, including Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas, Chase Manhattan Bank and MNI Market News. Ian is a regular media commentator on developments in the financial markets.

Sustainable Finance Solutions Product Manager

Olivier Wibo, CFA, is a Sustainable Finance Solutions Product Manager at Bloomberg, responsible for the development and bringing to market the Bloomberg ESG Scores as well as supporting Sustainable Finance products and tools with a current focus on temperature portfolio alignment.
He has worked at Bloomberg since 1998 in a variety holding a number of positions there over the years across including (Workflow spec) leading a team of specialists that successfully launched the Bloomberg Portfolio Analytics and Risk & Bloomberg indices across EMEA and APAC.
Olivier is a CFA charterholder, and holds a BS in Business Administration and Management, Finance from Louvain (Belgium). He is married with two children.

Mr. Pascal Schmidt is a Principal ESG Specialist at FactSet with a focus on the flagship ESG dataset from Truvalue Labs. In his current position, Mr. Schmidt works as a subject matter expert on all ESG questions internally and is responsible for selling and supporting FactSet´s ESG solutions for clients across continental Europe.

His expertise spans across datasets generated through AI/NLP technology as well as those catering to regulatory frameworks + the more than 40 third-party ESG datasets integrated into the FactSet ecosystem.

Mr. Schmidt received degrees in Economics from the University of Mannheim and Barcelona Graduate School of Economics and is a holder of the certificate in ESG Investing by CFA Institute.

Johannes Nützel is a business economist and has been with RSU since its founding in 2003. As head of the IT & Finance department, he is responsible for developing and producing RSU’s IT systems and is also in charge of commercial matters and new sub-brand markets.

After working for several years with a leading real estate consultancy, he joined RSU back in 2004 as a methodology expert. Navigating data challenges for ESG integration


Rinesh Patel is the Global Head of Financial Service at Snowflake where he is responsible for developing the financial service value proposition and supporting our customers’ transition to cloud. Rinesh has been in the financial services industry for over 20 years in a variety of banking, consulting and business leadership roles with his most recent experience as Global Head of Cloud Proposition at Refinitiv (a London Stock Exchange Company) where he established and led a commercially-minded platform team to develop a modern cloud data platform to deliver new data solutions. Rinesh also held a series of commercial leadership roles including leading the Enterprise Data business where he oversaw performance of a portfolio of solutions comprising market data feeds, analytics solutions and managed services. A thought leader in financial services, Rinesh is an active participant in a variety of industry sponsored initiatives and is a contributor to various publications. Rinesh is based in London where he lives with his wife and two daughters.
