SIPUGday 2024 was held on September 11 and 12, 2024, in the lively city of Zurich, bringing together industry professionals for two days of collaboration and innovation.
The event began with an exclusive SIPUGdinner on the evening of September 11, offering a unique opportunity for sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, and delegates to connect in an informal setting. On September 12, the focus shifted to the elegant Marriott Hotel, where participants engaged in a day filled with thought-provoking discussions, insightful presentations, and dynamic networking sessions.

Mathias Strasser is an accomplished lawyer, technologist and entrepreneur who frequently speaks at conferences. After graduating from Harvard with a specialty in intellectual property law and spending 10 years at Sullivan & Cromwell, one of the pre-eminent firms on Wall Street, Mathias moved to London, where he founded two companies in the document automation space, both of which are now private equity-backed and between them employ almost 300 people. In addition, Mathias has several songs published on Universal, led San Marino’s foray into Eurovision in 2018 and founded Casperaki, a generative AI company focused on music production.

Marc Stampfli is a computer scientist and technology leader with over 22 years of experience in developing new market segments for enterprise companies. In NVIDIA Switzerland, he is responsible for driving the development of modern artificial intelligence with deep learning, quantum computing, and metaverse technology. Marc holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Zurich and has worked in leading positions for major technology companies from Silicon Valley such as IBM and Oracle, as well as traditional companies such as Colt Technology Services and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Budha brings over 17 years Capital Markets experience, prior to KPMG he worked at Goldman Sachs, UBS, Deutsche Bank, BAML & JPMorgan. Apart from being an ESG SME and a data scientist with proven experience in developing AI/ML applications, he has successfully delivered major product development and regulatory change management programs at tier one investment banks. Budha holds a PhD in Quantitative Finance from UCL, an MBA from INSEAD and an MSc Financial Economics from the University of Exeter. He is also an Industrial Professor of Finance and Banking and Researcher at University College London, Institute of Finance & Technology. He is heading Lombard Odier’s ESG Systematic Research team since May 2023
There are currently 900,000 AI models worldwide, all of which are actually trained with the same four data sets (Internet full take, Wikipedia, US bibliography and Reddit). Then content is produced with AI that trains new models. We will have an inbreeding problem like the Habsburg monarchy, where people only married each other. In the end, the Habsburgs all looked really weird (long nose and crooked upper lip). In the end, the companies that have the most proprietary data and are unique will win.
Alexis Eisenhofer studied economic sciences at LMU Munich from 1993 to 1997, where he subsequently received a doctorate in the field of multiple period portfolio optimization at the seminar for capital market research. As founding shareholder and CEO of the financial.com corporation, an application service provider for market data, he has been responsible for the finance, content, project- and product management divisions since 1999. He has been founding member and honorary executive of the Münchner Finance Forum e.V. since 2005, which promotes the exchange between finance and institutional capital investment.

Borja Cadenato leads the ESG and data product team at Clarity AI – a sustainability tech company that uses AI and machine learning to deliver environmental and social insights to investors, organizations, and consumers. He coordinates efforts across the Research, Data Science, and Tech teams to develop market-leading risk and data solutions for ESG analysis, benchmarking, and reporting. He joined the company in 2021, bringing to the company more than 15 years of experience in financial markets sales and trading at leading financial institutions such as Santander, BBVA, and Citibank.

• There is strong regulatory pish towards the inclusion of ESG considerations in risk assessment.
• Many rating agencies offer ESG assessments and score, but they are inconsistent, providing diverging views on the same company, and are not necessarily linked to an actual risk measure.
• We introduce an ESG credit sentiment that is relevant for a variety of regulatory and risk management purposes.
• We discuss some of the challenges we faced to select an appropriate ML technique to detect the ESG Credit Sentiment and how we solved them.
• Finally we will discuss some outlooks about future evolution of our model.
Giorgio is Global Head of the Analytic Development Group. His team is responsible for the analytical development, maintenance and on-going validation of all credit risk models and products across Risk Services, which are used by financial institutions and corporate companies to measure and manage credit risk, including within regulatory frameworks such as Basel II/III or Solvency II. Prior to joining S&P Global Market Intelligence in 2011, Giorgio worked at Barclays in Group Risk. Giorgio holds a PhD in Quantum Mechanics and Semiconductor Physics from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
Kyra leads the EMEA climate change specialist consultant team at MSCI and is part of MSCI’s climate risk center (CRC). In her role as a climate change specialist consultant, she works with financial sector and corporate clients on climate risk and opportunity analysis to inform the development and implementation of climate strategies. She assists financial institutions with the integration of climate data and models into investment processes, the implementation of the TCFD recommendations and TCFD-aligned reporting as well with the development of portfolio decarbonisation strategies and the implementation of net zero targets.
Prior to joining MSCI, Kyra worked at UBS, including the UBS Asset Management’s Sustainable and Impact Investing team, the UBS Optimus Foundation’s Social Finance team and UBS Wealth Management’s finance division. She also worked for the 2 Degrees Investing Initiative, a global think tank providing research and tools to align the financial markets and regulation with the Paris Agreement goals. As part of her work, she co-published research on the impact of a green supporting factor on European banks and lending in the Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance.
Kyra holds a BA in International Studies from Leiden University (The Hague, NL) and a MA in International Energy from Sciences Po (Paris, FR).
Antti has over 15 years of experience in ESG and sustainability research for investment purposes at Nordea Asset Management in Helsinki.
Responsible Research (now Sustainalytics) in Singapore, Dexia (now Candriam) Asset Management in Brussels and ABN AMRO Asset Management in Amsterdam.
Antti is a published author and widely featured speaker on ESG, and has contributed to the ESG investing community through his positions as PRI Co-chair of Reporting & Assessment committee, FINSIF chairman of the board.
